Most people tell me they "hate having their photo taken." Then twenty minutes in, they forget the camera is there. That's the whole point. A good portrait isn't about striking a pose — it's about being seen properly, and liking what you see back.
I'm Lasma, a portrait photographer based in Peterborough, and I create warm, character-filled portraits for individuals, professionals and creatives across Cambridgeshire. My sessions are slow, friendly and completely free of judgement.

I'm not interested in airbrushing you into someone else. I want the portrait that makes your friends say "that's *so* you" — the real expression, the natural light, the personality that shows up when you relax. We'll chat, move around, and let the photographs happen between the poses.
Whether you want something soft and gentle or bold and full of attitude, we'll find the version of you that feels honest. You don't need to know what to do with your hands. That's my job.
How a portrait session works
We'll start with a quick chat about what the photographs are for — a new headshot, a milestone birthday, a gift, or simply because you'd like to exist in photographs. Then we'll choose a location that suits you: a quiet corner of Nene Park, the stone streets of Stamford, a studio backdrop, or your favourite spot in town.
I'll guide you the whole way, with simple directions and plenty of encouragement. There's no rush and no audience — just us, good light and time to get it right.

Who portrait sessions are for
Portraits are for anyone who's been putting it off. They're for the professional who needs a headshot that actually looks friendly. They're for the graduate marking the end of a chapter, the creative building a portfolio, and the person who simply wants a photograph they're proud to share.
If you're unsure which style suits you, bring a few inspiration images and we'll work it out together. There are no wrong answers.
Location ideas around Peterborough and Cambridgeshire
We're lucky to have so many beautiful backdrops nearby. I often photograph in and around Peterborough city centre, the riverside and Nene Park, and further afield in Stamford, Oundle, Ely and Huntingdon. For a more urban feel, the streets and architecture of the city work beautifully; for something softer, a meadow or woodland at golden hour is hard to beat.

I'm nervous in front of a camera — will that show?
Not for long. I hear this from almost everyone, and it's completely normal. I'll start slowly, keep talking, and use gentle prompts instead of strict poses. Most people relax within the first ten minutes and are surprised by how much they enjoy it.
What should I wear for a portrait session?
Wear something you feel genuinely good in. Solid colours and simple textures usually photograph best, and layers give us options. Avoid busy logos and loud patterns, and bring a spare outfit if you'd like a different look.
How long does a portrait session take?
Most sessions run between 60 and 90 minutes, which is plenty of time to settle in and get a good variety of images. We can extend the session if you'd like more looks or locations.
Can I have my hair and make-up done beforehand?
Of course. Many clients arrive camera-ready, and I'm happy to recommend local make-up artists in Peterborough if you'd like a hand. Just keep it looking like you — that's what will date well.
How soon will I see my photographs?
You'll usually receive your edited gallery within two weeks. I'll send a small preview soon after your session so you have something to look forward to.
